What is device verification?

In this article, you can read about device verification

Updated today

Device verification is an essential security measure used by Coinmerce to protect your account. It adds an extra layer of security by confirming that you are indeed the person attempting to log in from a (new) device. In this article, we explain how this process works and what you need to do.

Step 1: Log in to your account

When you try to log in to the Coinmerce app from a device that hasn’t been recognised yet, the verification process starts automatically. At that moment, a unique 6-digit code is sent to your registered email address.

Step 2: Retrieve the code from your email

Open your email inbox on your phone or computer. Look for the email from Coinmerce containing the verification code. Copy this 6-digit code.

Note: For security reasons, the verification code is only valid for 1 hour. So make sure you complete the verification within this time.

Step 3: Enter the code in the app

Go back to the Coinmerce app. You will now see the code entry screen.

You can manually type the code into the six fields. If you copied the code from your email, you can also tap the handy blue “Paste Code” button to paste the code directly into the fields.

Step 4: What to do if you don’t receive an email?

If the email does not appear in your inbox immediately, first check your junk mail (spam) folder. If the code still hasn’t arrived after a few minutes, you can tap the “Resend Email” option in the app to request a new code. Pay attention to the timer on the screen; you can only make a new request once it has expired.

If the email still hasn’t arrived, even after checking the spam folder and requesting a new one, please contact our support team for further assistance.

Why is device verification important?

By verifying your device, you prevent unauthorised individuals from accessing your sensitive information or crypto assets, even if they somehow obtain your password. It protects your account against fraud and unauthorised takeovers.
